Can I REQUEST a stamp to be put in my British passport when travelling between EU countries?
I recently went to the USA and lost my I-94w visa waiver, so they have no record of me leaving the country, on arrival back in the UK i asked for an entry stamp to be put in my passport and they refused.
I just wanted a stamp putting in my passport so that when I next go to the USA I can at least prove that I left on a previous visit.
No you can’t; the stamp in your passport would show that immigration procedures have been conducted. The travel between EU countries however does not require any immigration procedures. Holders of passports of member countries of the EU have the right to freely travel to other member countries without any further formalities except presenting a valid passport or national ID card.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
You are not required to have any visa, be it entry or residence visa.
Immigration officers may not:
• require you to present an identity card with machine readable zone, a recent model of identity card or a passport with validity at least another 3 months … if the identity card or passport is valid, that is all you need;
• ask you to produce any documents other than a valid identity card or passport, such as to furnish proof of means to support yourself, travel tickets, employment certificate, pay slips, bank statements, proof of accommodation, means of subsistence, medical certificate …
• ask you how much money you have to spend;
• ask you questions regarding the purpose and duration of your trip;
• affix an entry stamp on your identity document or passport on arrival authorising you to enter the national territory.
